The Golden State, back in our Golden Age
I was recently rooting through some of my old photographs from the pre-digital and early digital age…the days when you still had to get pictures ‘developed’ before you could see them. I must admit I have no nostalgia for this age whatsoever.
My purpose was to dig up so old pictures from my 2006 volunteer service in Big Bend National park for a story I wanted to do. I haven’t been able to locate them, yet. But I did find a ton of other historical photographs back from when Sylvia and I were still just dating. Some of these old pictures still hold up surprisingly well.
Here’s a bunch from out 2007/2008 trip to Coastal California and the Big Sur. Back then, neither Sylvia nor I really knew if our relationship was even going to work out. We’ve been through a lot together since then, and looking at these old photos certainly rekindled memories of that time.
It is ironic that as I looked through these, many places pictured here are now threatened by wildfires. Out hearts go out to the people of California.
But the way, we also HIGHLY recommend a drive up the California Coast North of Santa Barbara at least as far as Monterrey. Our advise is to spend at least a day or two fully exploring Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park and the surrounding area. There is just a ton to see here. We’ll be back someday to make more golden memories!
